Scrabble with Granny

Created by Leo one year ago
Our family left England in 1985 to live in australia. So for nearly 40 years we were on the other side of the world.
Though Granny always made the effort to stay in touch. She always remembered birthdays and would send lovely cards and some money. Sometimes she would send through presents and I still have the miniature model guitars she sent me.

She also used to visit us in Australia. One time I was on the beach with her in Fremantle, and she taught me about tai chi walking, something she had learnt recently. It involved walking very slowly. It’s a nice memory we spent together.

In her later years, at 90 she was given an ipad as a way of being introduced to the internet. Soon she would be playing scrabble online - a game called Words With Friends and so I began to play with her. When I told a friend I was playing scrabble with Granny online, they said you’ll have to let her win. I didn’t have to. Sometimes she would. Take in mind she was also playing about a dozen games at a time with different people.

Granny was always learning and despite the fact we were far apart,  the visits, presents and games we played together meant we were still connected. I will miss her greatly.
